AB de Villiers may be remembered primarily as one of cricket’s most destructive batters, yet his fielding matched that brilliance.
Few players combined versatility and athletic excellence quite like De Villiers. He excelled in the slips, patrolled the boundary with ease and possessed one of the safest pairs of hands in world cricket.
His reflex catches close to the wicket were outstanding, while his rocket arm made batters think twice before attempting risky singles. De Villiers also produced moments of brilliance under pressure that shifted matches instantly.

Herschelle Gibbs was one of the most naturally gifted fielders South Africa has ever produced.
At backward point and in the covers, Gibbs was electric. His speed across the turf, combined with sharp reflexes and a powerful throwing arm, made him a constant threat.
He was also a superb catcher in the deep, producing spectacular boundary efforts while maintaining composure in high pressure moments. Gibbs played with flair and confidence, and his fielding reflected that fearless attitude.
Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis brought intensity and consistency to South African fielding during the modern era.
Whether stationed in the slips or roaming the outfield, Du Plessis became known for his reliability and spectacular athleticism. His catches in the deep often defied logic, while his anticipation and positioning allowed him to cut off boundaries with remarkable efficiency.
Du Plessis also led by example as captain, raising fielding standards and reinforcing South Africa’s reputation as one of the strongest fielding units in world cricket.
JP Duminy
JP Duminy was one of the smoothest fielders of his generation.
