The 20-year-old burst onto the scene with an impressive SA20 campaign for the Paarl Royals before making his Proteas T20I debut on the tour to New Zealand earlier this year.
Mokoena announced himself with a superb 3-26 in the opening T20I in Mount Maunganui and has since been included in CSA’s Player of National Interest programme.
Now preparing to make his South Africa A debut against the England Lions, the KZN Dolphins speedster told News24 that representing the Proteas in whites remains his biggest ambition.
“I want to find myself in the Proteas space and play Test cricket,” he said. “It is something that I want to do.
“I really enjoy red-ball cricket as well. You have so many opportunities to do well. If your first spell doesn’t go well, you can always come back in the second spell.”

Despite sharing a dressing room with stars such as Kagiso Rabada and competing in a crowded fast-bowling pool, Mokoena says he is not putting pressure on himself.
“There are big names in the team, and I don’t really think much about it. I’m just here to do my job.”
