Sooryavanshi breaks Tendulkar’s longstanding age record

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi etched his name into the record books after becoming India's youngest ever international cricketer in the second T20I against England in Manchester on Saturday.

At just 15 years and 99 days, Sooryavanshi surpassed the mark previously held by Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut at 16 years and 205 days against Pakistan in 1989.

The teenager scored 14 from 10 balls during his first appearance for India. His highlight came when he struck England pacer Jofra Archer for his first international six before his innings ended when he was stumped by Jos Buttler off the bowling of Will Jacks.

The debut is the latest milestone in a remarkable rise through the ranks.

Before earning his maiden international cap, Sooryavanshi had already established himself as one of the brightest young talents in world cricket. He smashed 94 off just 29 balls for India A against Sri Lanka A in the Tri Series final, setting the record for the fastest List A fifty with an 11 ball half century. He also made 175 off 80 balls in the ICC Under 19 World Cup final against England, 97 off 29 in an IPL Eliminator and 96 off 47 in an IPL Qualifier 2.

Those performances earned him an opportunity on the international stage at an age few players ever experience. Although his first outing was brief, Saturday will be remembered as the day Sooryavanshi became the youngest player to represent India in international cricket, a record that could stand for many years.
