• Second overlooked, four others recalled

Four of the five Proteas cricketers released from the squad for the ongoing third Test against England have been recalled for the fourth.

Batsmen Temba Bavuma and Keegan Petersen, all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo and seamer Beuran Hendricks will not play in this week’s 4-Day Domestic Series fixtures. Wicketkeeper Rudi Second, however, remains with the Warriors.

The fourth and final Test will start at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Friday. Phehlukwayo or Hendricks will likely replace fast bowler Kagiso Rabada in the hosts’ XI. Rabada has been suspended for one Test after an arguably overzealous celebration of England captain Joe Root’s wicket in Port Elizabeth.

Bavuma, too, is pushing for a recall to the Test XI. He struck a first-class career-best 180 for the Lions in the defeat by the Dolphins at the City Oval in Pietermaritzburg last week.

The series is locked at 1-1. The hosts won the first Test in Centurion. England won the second in Cape Town. The tourists will likely win the third in Port Elizabeth as well.

Test squad: Faf du Plessis (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Dean Elgar, Keshav Maharaj, Rassie van der Dussen, Pieter Malan, Zubayr Hamza, Anrich Nortje, Dane Paterson, Vernon Philander, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Temba Bavuma, Andile Phehlukwayo, Beuran Hendricks, Keegan Petersen.
