Why Vaibhav will get his own change room on England tour

India batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will use separate changing-room facilities from his teammates during the upcoming T20 series in England.

The measures form part of safeguarding protocols for under-age players set by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as well as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The 15-year-old prodigy is expected to become India’s youngest international cricketer when he makes his debut against Ireland in Belfast on Friday, before travelling to England for a five-match T20 series.

According to regulations in place during ICC events, players under the age of 16 are not permitted to use adult changing rooms. The ECB have similar safeguarding regulations in place.

As a result, Sooryavanshi will have dedicated facilities for his own private use at all venues during the England series.

The restriction applies only before and after matches when players are changing. Sooryavanshi will still be allowed in the India dressing room during games and will attend team meetings and tactical discussions with the rest of the squad.

According to The Guardian, the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed it is working closely with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the ICC and host venues to ensure all safeguarding measures are in place.

The ECB also revealed that Sooryavanshi’s parents are expected to accompany him throughout the tour and will stay in the same hotel as the Indian squad – an arrangement approved because of his age.

The measures are standard practice in English sport but will be a new experience for the teenager, who shared dressingroom facilities with senior teammates during his time with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Sooryavanshi arrives in international cricket with enormous expectations after a remarkable rise. He became the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket during his IPL debut season and followed it up with a record-breaking 2026 campaign in which he scored 776 runs to lead the run-scoring charts.

The left-hander further enhanced his reputation recently by smashing 94 off 29 balls for India A against Sri Lanka A, including a List A record 50 from just 11 deliveries.
