• Potchefstroom to host MODC

    Senwes Park will play host to the 2021 Momentum One-Day Cup with 15 matches set to be held from 9 January – 14 February in a bio-secure environment.

    Cricket South Africa confirmed Potchefstroom as the host city to welcome the six franchise teams in two separate phases.

    The governing body decided on a single stadium to use for all matches with the hope of reducing the risk of Covid-19 transmission. No spectators will be allowed to attend any of the matches.

    The Multiply Titans, VKB Knights and defending champions, Hollywoodbets Dolphins have been grouped together in Pool A. They will play each other on a home and away basis from 9-16 January.

    The Six Gun Grill Cobras, Imperial Lions and Warriors will make up Pool B and have been scheduled in the same format from 29 January – 5 February.

    The top two teams from each pool will then contest the semifinals on 11 and 12 February before the final takes place on Sunday 14 February.

    CSA Director of Cricket Graeme Smith confirmed the importance of the competition to go ahead, even under the regulations of a bio-bubble.

    ‘It is a great to be able to reaffirm that the Momentum One-Day Cup is going ahead this summer. It is the first limited-overs competition of the season and the respective franchises are raring to get going following a couple of weeks out of competitive action,’ said Smith.

    ‘It is unfortunate that we have to reduce the number of matches being played and move the entire competition to one venue, but the restrictions need to be put in place to ensure the tournament goes ahead in a safe environment in accordance with Government regulations.

    ‘Cricket South Africa is also pleased to confirm that all 15 matches will be televised live on SuperSport. With both our domestic and international tournaments currently being played behind closed doors, there is a strong appetite for live cricket.’
