• North West opt for franchise five

    Lions quintet Malusi Siboto, Wihan Lubbe, Nicky van den Bergh, Malusi Siboto, Kagiso Rapulana and Migael Pretorius are among a strong North West squad named for this month’s Provincial T20 Cup.

    Siboto and Lubbe will also play for the Durban Heat in the Mzansi Super League later this year, after being purchased for R150,000 and R100,000, respectively, in last week’s player draft.

    ‘After a successful Varsity Cricket tournament this past week, we look forward to hosting yet another major tournament,’ reads a statement from North West.

    ‘The squad consists of both experience and youngsters coming into play. The likes of  Lubbe, Van den Bergh, Siboto, Rapulana and Pretorius bring the experience from franchise level, whereas players like Khanya Cotani, who made his junior international in the recent U19 series against Pakistan, brings light to the youngsters.

    ‘In addition, Ruan Haasbroek, Lesego Senokwane and Jon Hinrichsen have made a head start to the season as they participated in the Varsity Cricket tournament.’

    Proteas spinner Aaron Phangiso will be the Easterns team manager.
