• No UK tour for Proteas Women

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Cricket South Africa has decided against the Proteas Women’s team travelling to the UK in September to face England.

In a statement, the organisation said the international travel restrictions enforced by the South African government for national teams have led to the decision to cancel the tour.

Opinion: ICC must reassess lighting calls

It is the third cancelled Proteas Women’s tour due to the coronavirus pandemic after the series against Australia and the West Indies were also called off.

Director of cricket Graeme Smith said: ‘It is frustrating that another opportunity for our Momentum Proteas to play against top-quality opposition has again had to be cancelled but, as always, the safety of our players and support staff is the prime consideration.’

As expected, it will lead to another loss of income for the already-struggling CSA, with the English Cricket Board now looking for a replacement for South Africa.
