• Duminy joins Barbados Tridents

Former Proteas batsman JP Duminy has been added to the Barbados Tridents’ squad for the remainder of the 2019 Caribbean Premier League.

Duminy and Australian Josh Lalor have replaced Pakistanis Wahab Riaz and Imad Wasim, who have withdrawn due to international commitments.

The left-handed Duminy recently played for the Winnipeg Hawks in the Global T20 Canada. The Hawks won the tournament. He was due to play for the Belfast Titans in the Euro T20 Slam, which was later postponed.

The 35-year-old also sports experience for the Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League.

He will represent the Paarl Rocks in the second edition of the Mzansi Super League later this year, after being purchased for R1 million at this week’s player draft in Soweto. He retired from international cricket after the World Cup earlier this year.

‘I’ve been considering it for the last couple of months. There is a big relief and also an appreciation for an amazing 15 years of international cricket. I’m absolutely blessed to have played with so many great cricketers and special humans over the years,’ he said at the time.

The current Caribbean Premier League features other South Africans, too, including the St Lucia Zouks’ Beuran Hendricks, Hardus Viljoen and Cameron Delport.
