• Boucher welcomes return of Titans’ Proteas

The Titans have named a squad laden with Proteas for Wednesday’s One-Day Cup clash with the Lions in Potchefstroom.

Opening batsman Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar have returned from South Africa’s Test series against Sri Lanka, while wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen, batsman Theunis de Bruyn, spinner Tabraiz Shamsi and all-rounder Chris Morris have also been included in the 13-man party.

Klaasen will captain the XI, while fast bowler Tshepo Moreki is in contention for a berth in the XI.

‘Our squad is a strong one, and we’ve been strengthened by a couple of our Proteas coming back as well. I’ve always said that our four-day squad is very different to our one-day team, which is a lot more experienced, and the guys seem to prefer white-ball cricket to red-ball cricket,’ said head coach Mark Boucher.

The Titans currently occupy fourth position in the tournament’s six-team standings, after victory over the Knights and defeat to the Dolphins. The Lions, meanwhile, are in last place.

‘I’m happy where we are, considering the amount of cricket we’ve played lately. It’s difficult to judge where we are because of the amount of cricket we’ve played,’ added Boucher.

‘The Lions will be desperate for the win. We understand that they’re a very dangerous side, and we’ll be treating them accordingly.’

Titans squad: Heinrich Klaasen (captain), Farhaan Behardien, Junior Dala, Theunis de Bruyn, Tony de Zorzi, Dean Elgar, Heino Kuhn, Aiden Markram, Tshepo Moreki, Chris Morris, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi, Jonathan Vandiar.
