• Big Bash deal for Proteas all-rounder

Proteas all-rounder Chris Morris will play for the Sydney Thunder in Australia’s Big Bash League later this year.

Morris was South Africa’s leading wicket-taker at the 2019 World Cup in the United Kingdom. He was not part of the original squad, eventually joining as a late replacement for the injured Anrich Nortje.

‘Chris is someone who I had my eye on. It’s always great to have a player who can change the game with bat and ball,’ said Thunder coach Shane Bond.

‘He’s an experienced, hardened cricketer who bowls 90 mph and smacks it with the bat. Those players are very rare, so he brings a unique skill set.

‘I’m looking forward to welcoming his personality and competitiveness to the team as well.’

The hard-hitting Morris was part of Hampshire’s 2019 T20 Blast campaign. He has also represented the Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, and the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League.
