Abbott stars again as Hampshire thump Sussex

Former Proteas seamer Kyle Abbott was the standout South African performer on day three of the County Championship on Sunday.

Sussex vs Hampshire – Hampshire won by 118 runs

Abbott added to his remarkable six-wicket spell in the first innings with figures of 3-6 in the second as Hampshire removed Sussex for 134 to seal a 118-run win and their second Championship victory of the season.

Essex vs Nottinghamshire – Nottinghamshire won by an innings and 52 runs

Former Proteas captain Dean Elgar fought hard for 42, hitting  eight fours, before being trapped lbw by Olly Stone. Simon Harmer chipped in with 27, but Essex were bowled out for 221 in their second innings to suffer an innings and 52-run defeat.

Somerset vs Warwickshire – Somerset leading by 219 runs

Jordan Hermann ground out 34 off 75 deliveries before falling to a well-judged catch off Manav Suthar as Somerset work to build a substantial lead.
