Du Plooy century drives Middlesex on day three

Leus du Plooy's unbeaten century headlined a busy day three for South African players across the County Championship on Sunday.

Leicestershire vs Essex – Essex 401, Leicestershire 187 and 326-7

Simon Harmer took two more wickets but went for 98 from 41 overs as a determined Leicestershire second innings fightback left Essex needing to bat a second time. The hosts closed with a lead of 112, leaving the match intriguingly poised heading into day four.

Nottinghamshire vs Somerset – Somerset 310 and 355-7 dec, Nottinghamshire 193 and 47-3

Migael Pretorius ended the day with figures of 0-15 as Somerset declared their second innings to set Nottinghamshire an improbable target of 473. The champions closed on 47-3, needing a further 426 with Somerset requiring seven more wickets to win.

Sussex vs Glamorgan – Sussex won by an innings and 98 runs

A miserable match for Colin Ingram ended with the veteran making a pair, facing 16 deliveries across both innings without troubling the scorers. James Coles’ remarkable unbeaten 224 and Tom Haines’ 3-5 made short work of any Glamorgan resistance.

Durham vs Derbyshire – Durham won by an innings and 22 runs

Wayne Madsen was among the early victims as Derbyshire crumbled to an innings defeat, with Matthew Potts taking 8-66 to seal a commanding Durham victory. Duanne Olivier finished with combined figures of 0-35 and 0-34 across both innings on his Durham debut.

Worcestershire vs Middlesex – Worcestershire 265 and 33-2, Middlesex 339 and 283-6 dec

Leus du Plooy anchored Middlesex’s second innings with a magnificent unbeaten 101 from 163 balls before declaring to set Worcestershire 358 to win. Eathan Bosch contributed 16 before being dismissed, while Beyers Swanepoel went wicketless.

Worcestershire closed on 33-2 with Gareth Roderick unbeaten on 13 after Dan Lategan fell to Zafar Gohar for 15.
