India superstar Sharma delivers stellar show

Star India all-rounder Deepti Sharma produced a superb individual performance as her side beat arch rivals Pakistan by 64 runs in the Women's T20 World Cup at Edgbaston on Sunday.

The 28-year-old recorded match figures of 5-10 off her four overs to help dismiss Pakistan for only 106 in reply to Indiaโ€™s 170.

It was the best T20I bowling performance of her career and the best by an India player in T20 World Cup history.

It was also the third best figures overall at any Womenโ€™s T20 World Cup:

  1. Deandra Dottin (West Indies): 5-5 vs Bangladesh, 2018 T20 World Cup
  2. Sune Luus (South Africa): 5-8 vs Ireland, 2016
  3. Deepti Sharma (India): 5-10 vs Pakistan, 2026
  4. Ashleigh Gardner (Australia): 5-12 vs New Zealand, 2023.

South African cricket fans will remember Deepti as she also bagged a five-wicket haul against the Proteas Women in the 2025 ODI Cricket World Cup final which secured Indiaโ€™s maiden 50-over title.
