Harmer leads SA charge on day two

Simon Harmer claimed three wickets for Essex while Pretoria-born Graeme van Buuren held firm with an unbeaten 75 as South Africans made their mark on day two of the County Championship.

Leicestershire vs Essex – Essex 401, Leicestershire 187 and 51-0

Simon Harmer took 3-42 as Essex bowled out Leicestershire for 187 and forced to follow on 214 runs behind. Harmer also chipped in with 36 with the bat, hitting five fours before his dismissal.

Nottinghamshire vs Somerset – Somerset 310 and 73-2, Notts 193

Migael Pretorius claimed 1-33 as Somerset dismissed Nottinghamshire for 193 to seize control. Jordan Hermann continued his excellent form in the second innings, striking 40 off 64 balls before being dismissed by Mohammad Ali. Somerset closed leading by 190 runs.

Northamptonshire vs Gloucestershire – Northants 465, Gloucestershire 233-5

Graeme van Buuren produced an unbeaten 75 to drag Gloucestershire back into contention after they slumped to 56-4, sharing a 148-run fifth-wicket stand with James Bracey, who made 72. Gloucestershire closed trailing by 232 runs.

Worcestershire vs Middlesex – Middlesex 339, Worcestershire 265

Leus du Plooy’s 85 gave Middlesex a solid platform before Adam Finch’s 4-93 helped restrict their innings. Beyers Swanepoel contributed 34 with the bat and finished with 1-72, while Gareth Roderick ground out 29 off 86 balls. Middlesex led by 79 at stumps.

Durham vs Derbyshire – Durham 377, Derbyshire 118 and 99-4

Wayne Madsen and Matthew Montgomery both fell cheaply as Derbyshire were bowled out for 118. In the follow-on, Montgomery was caught behind off Matthew Potts before Madsen ended the day unbeaten on 18 as Derbyshire closed on 99-4, trailing by 160 runs.
