Rajasthan wonderkid Sooryavanshi shatters six hitting record

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his remarkable IPL 2026 campaign on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian batter to hit 50 sixes in a single season during Rajasthan Royals’ clash against Lucknow Super Giants.

According to Rajasthan Royals, the 15 year old now has 53 sixes this season after smashing 10 maximums in a blistering 93 off 38 balls in Jaipur.

Marsh blitz undone as Sooryavanshi stars in Rajasthan victory

Sooryavanshi reached the landmark off Mayank Yadav in the 11th over as Rajasthan chased down 220 in a must win encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

The teenage opener had already broken the record for most sixes by an Indian in a single IPL season last week when he surpassed Abhishek Sharma’s tally of 42 from IPL 2024.

He is now just six sixes away from Chris Gayle’s all time IPL record of 59 sixes, set for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2012. Andre Russell is the only other player to clear 50 sixes in a single season after smashing 52 in 2019.

Sooryavanshi has produced several record breaking performances during IPL 2026. Earlier this season, he hammered 103 off 37 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad, including 12 sixes, the most by an Indian in a single IPL innings.
