Glamorgan teen Norton claims historic hat-trick

Glamorgan teenager Tom Norton produced a sensational debut at Sophia Gardens, ripping through Somerset with a hat-trick that flipped the match on its head and etched his name into the record books.

The 18-year-old seamer struck in a devastating third over of the second innings, removing England prospect James Rew, Tom Lammonby and Archie Vaughan in quick succession. It sparked wild celebrations and left Somerset reeling at 32 for 6 despite still holding a first-innings lead, as reported by BBC Sport.

Norton became the youngest player to take a first-class hat-trick on Glamorgan debut and the first to do so on a County Championship debut since 1906. He also became the youngest ever to achieve a first-class hat-trick on debut anywhere in the game.

“It was a moment I’ll cherish for the rest of my life,” Norton said. “It was surreal. I never expected anything like this.”

Somerset still remain ahead in the game, but Norton’s burst has given Glamorgan a genuine chance heading into the final stages, with his name now firmly part of Championship history.
