Amla pointed to Esterhuizen’s mindset as a key strength. “He was always eager to learn and try new things,” he said. “That’s important if you want to move between formats and adapt quickly.”
He added that the youngster’s ability to process and apply information has driven his progress. “When you watch him early on, you can see he has something. His growth has been quick because he understands what works for his game.”
Amla was not surprised by Esterhuizen’s international call-up, citing consistent performances in both red- and white-ball cricket.
“He embodies the modern player,” Amla said. “He has a solid technique but can also clear the boundary.”

The former Proteas batter also highlighted Esterhuizen’s versatility, noting he can bat anywhere from one to six.
“That flexibility is not easy,” Amla said. “It makes him valuable, and No 4 could suit him best as a link between the top and middle order.”
With momentum building, Amla believes Esterhuizen is well placed to establish himself on the global stage.
