• ‘Use Boucher, Smith and Kallis’

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has joined the chorus of voices that want Titans head coach Mark Boucher to work with the Proteas.

Vaughan suggested former all-rounder Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith join the coaching staff. Kallis has plenty of coaching experience with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

‘This South African Test team is a real concern for the game. The game needs South Africa to be strong. Time for Boucher to take over. Also, why wouldn’t you use Graeme and Jacques in some capacity,’ Vaughan wrote on Twitter.

The Proteas recently sunk to a 3-0 Test series defeat in India and, earlier this year, finished in seventh position in the nine-team World Cup in the United Kingdom.

Vaughan also commented on several South African cricketers playing in England on Kolpak contracts, which doesn’t allow participation for the Proteas at the same time.

Fast bowler Duanne Olivier, seamer Kyle Abbott and spinner Simon Harmer are among the high-profile South Africans forging careers in the United Kingdom. Harmer and Olivier have publicly expressed ambition to play for England.

‘We don’t steal. They come because they get a better chance to have a career. That’s what needs to change on SA. They shouldn’t be having to leave,’ he added.
