Proteas leg-spinner Imran Tahir will play for the Manchester Originals in next year’s The Hundred – the England and Wales Cricket Board’s new limited-overs tournament.

Tahir’s reserve price for Sunday’s player draft was R1.1 million. He was bought for more than double that – R2.4 million.

Which South Africans were available for The Hundred draft?

Tahir will be team-mates with former Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Dane Vilas and all-rounder Wayne Parnell at the Originals. Vilas was purchased for the same price as Tahir in round one. Parnell cost R960,000 in round five.

South African batsman Rilee Rossouw and all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe were picked by the Oval Invincibles and London Spirit, respectively, in the third round for R1.4 million each. The Invincibles also recruited former Proteas fast bowler Hardus Viljoen for R1.1 million during the fourth round.

Former Proteas spinner Simon Harmer went to the Welsh Fire for R1.1 million in the fourth round. South Africa’s Gary Kirsten is the head coach of the Fire, who recruited ex-Proteas batsman Colin Ingram earlier this year.

The Birmingham Phoenix and Spirit bought Dolphins batsman Cameron Delport and seamer Kyle Abbott in round five. Delport and Abbott cost R960,000. All-rounder David Wiese joined the Northern Superchargers for the same amount in the same round.

The Originals welcomed former Proteas seamer Marchant de Lange for R770,000 in the sixth and penultimate round.

Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, captain Faf du Plessis and wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock were listed for the draft, but weren’t chosen. Fast bowler Dale Steyn and batsmen JP Duminy, David Miller and Temba Bavuma, whose bases prices were R1.4 million, were also overlooked.

New issue: Bavuma – one size fits all

All-rounder Chris Morris was available for R1.1 million or more, but was not chosen. Batsman Aiden Markram, with a reserve price of R760,000, was skipped as well.
