• Short’s swashbuckling 96 keeps Hurricanes on top

D’Arcy Short was at it again in the BBL with a swashbuckling 96 not out against the Melbourne Stars to keep Hobart Hurricanes at the top of the log and earn today’s Play of the Day accolade, writes ANITHA MADIKIZELA.

Having won the toss and electing to bat first, Short and captain Matthew Wade (41 off 38 balls, 1×4,1×6) shared a devastating 95-run stand for the opening partnership as the visitors took the attack to the home team bowlers.

The explosive Short went on to score an unbeaten 96 off 57 balls. The left-hander smashed eight fours and four towering sixes – guiding the Hurricanes to a mammoth 185-2 in their 20 overs.

Short then returned in the second innings to pick up the wicket of the Stars opener Ben Dunk (20 off 15 balls, 2×4 1×6) to earn himself the Player of the Match award and help his side secure a 59-run win over the home team in Melbourne.
