• Shamsi joins Hampshire

Hampshire have recruited Proteas spinner Tabraiz Shamsi for the remainder of the T20 Blast.

Shamsi will effectively act as cover for the injured Mason Crane and Brad Taylor. Fellow South African Chris Morris is also with Hampshire.

The South African has represented the Royal Challenger Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League.

He also represented the Paarl Rocks in last year’s inaugural Mzansi Super League. He has participated in the T20 Blast previously, with Northamptonshire two years ago.

‘After losing both Mason and Brad to injuries, Shamsi bolsters the squad and offers an excellent spin option with international experience for the final four fixtures of our campaign – we’re looking forward to having him with us, starting against Middlesex,’ said Hampshire director of cricket Giles White.

The 29-year-old was part of the Proteas World Cup squad, but played just two games. He went without a wicket and proved costly against India in Southampton and Australia in Manchester. He has been included in the squad for next month’s three T20Is against India.

Shamsi’s international debut came in 2016 and he has since collected two Tests, 17 ODIs and 14 T20Is.
