Saffas Abroad: Harmer takes five to reach 50

Essex spinner Simon Harmer's five-for against Middlesex was the standout performance from South Africans abroad over the past week.

County Championship Division One

Dane Vilas chipped in with a handy first-innings 37 off 68 deliveries (five fours) for Lancashire in their innings-and-36-run victory over Northamptonshire on Sunday, while Harmer produced second-innings figures of 5-43 for Essex in their 297-run demolition of Middlesex on Monday to take his County Championship tally to 50 wickets.

County Championship Division Two

Durban-born Wayne Madsen was in fine form with the bat for Derbyshire in their 277-run loss to Yorkshire on Sunday. He scored 93 off 140 deliveries (15 fours, one six) in the first innings, and followed it up with quick-fire 93 off 71 (14 fours, three sixes).

Colin Ackermann and Wiaan Mulder both delivered solid performances for Leicestershire in their eight-wicket win over Gloucestershire. Mulder picked up first-innings figures of 2-49, before scoring 29 off 36 deliveries (five fours) to go with Ackermann’s 33 off 77 balls (five fours).

Mulder added another four wickets for 61 runs during Gloucestershire’s second innings, before Ackermann finished with an unbeaten second-innings score of 93 off 135 deliveries (14 fours, one six).

Caribbean Premier League

Durban-born Chris Green picked up figures of 2-21 for the Jamaican Tallawahs as they went down by six wickets to the Barbados Royals.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors’ Dwaine Pretorius produced a Man of the Match performance against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, scoring 27 off 20 balls (two fours, one six) before claiming figures of 3-17 to lead his side to a 98-run victory. The match also featured Corbin Bosch, who scored 27 off 27  deliveries (one four, one six) for St Kitts.

Former Proteas spinner Roelof van der Merwe claimed figures of 3-40 for Barbados in their 90-run win over Trinbago.

Green was on hand with the bat for the Tallawahs in their narrow two-run loss to Trinbago, scoring 32 off 16 deliveries (three sixes).

Barbados’ Van der Merwe produced an unbeaten cameo of 20 off nine deliveries (two fours, one six) as they went down to Trinbago by 42 runs on Thursday.
