The Proteas women failed to chase down a 137-run target falling to a 10-run defeat to Bangladesh in their third ODI in Cox’s Bazar on Monday.
After easy victories in the first two matches, a series win seemed inevitable after a good bowling display by the women, every bowler picking up wickets to bundle Bangladesh out for 136 in 49 overs. Marizanne Kapp (2-18), Dane van Niekerk (2-18) and Sune Luus (2-29) teamed up well to restrict the hosts as Bangladesh captain Rumana Ahmed top-scored with 28.
The SA ladies started off well with Lizelle Lee looking strong and on course for a third consecutive half-ton, but she fell short on 46 off 31 balls to the top wicket-taker of the day Khadija Tul Kubra. Kubra put in a Player of the Match performance picking up 4-33, and despite a final surge by Dane van Niekerk (42 off 65 balls), led her side to victory with an awesome bowling display as SA were bowled out for 126, losing the third ODI by 10 runs with 18.4 overs remaining.
