• SA U19 spinner welcomes responsibility

Spinner Kgaudise Molefe is relishing the challenge of bowling important spells during South Africa U19’s ongoing tour of India.

Molefe will be afforded the opportunity to impress in characteristically slow, low sub-continental conditions during this month’s two Youth Tests in Trivandrum.

‘It’s all about taking responsibility. We have new guys in the group that still have to learn more. I have been here for a long time now, so I understand the different situations of the game. I have to take care of the guys, that’s the responsibility I have,’ he said.

‘It’s something I enjoy, sharing thoughts with the new guys in the team. It is quite a big experience for me to help lead the team as the spinner.’

Molefe attended Cricket South Africa’s spin-bowling camp in India three years ago – and worked alongside batsman Aiden Markram, spinner Dane Piedt and others.

‘I learnt a lot in India. Having guys like Aiden, Dane and Shaun von Berg helping you out, it was so nice. I was learning a lot, but I was also scared, playing with guys that have played for South Africa,’ he added.

‘In other ways it also motivated me more, being in their shoes, competing with them and seeing myself playing with some of the best players in the country.

‘It is good experience to bring into this team, especially since we’re playing in India on the typical spinning wickets, I look forward to bringing that into the side.’
