After cruising to a comfortable 3-1 win over Australia in a controversial Test series in South Africa in 2018, the Proteas added more misery on their opposition by beating them 2-1 in an ODI series later that year.
The Proteas travelled to Australia high in confidence and emerged victorious across the three matches in Perth, Adelaide and Hobart.
Faf du Plessis’ team won the opening clash at the new Optus Stadium by six wickets after a brilliant bowling display by Dale Steyn and Imran Tahir.
After losing the second encounter it was all to play for in the final matchup and after a poor start with the bat, centuries by Du Plessis and David Miller helped the Proteas post a big target for Australia to chase.
Despite a valiant effort by the Aussies in their run chase, smart bowling at the death by the South African quicks handed them a 40-run victory and a series win in the process.
