• Proteas tight-lipped on Bavuma injury

Proteas captain Temba Bavuma did not go for a scan on his strained right hamstring over the weekend.

Bavuma suffered the injury while fielding in South Africa’s final league-stage match against Afghanistan on Friday.

The 33-year-old showed great discomfort while batting, prompting speculation that he could miss Thursday’s World Cup semi-final in Kolkata.

On Sunday, CSA said Bavuma did not go for a scan, which suggests the injury may not be as bad as it initially appeared.

CSA said the player would “continue to be monitored and managed by the medical team”.

If Bavuma is ruled out of the match, his place at the top of the order would be taken by Reeza Hendricks, who scored 85 against England in his only knock at this World Cup, with Aiden Markram captaining the team, as he did twice earlier in the tournament.
