• Proteas seamer joins Mumbai Indians

South African seamer Beuran Hendricks will join the Mumbai Indians for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League.

Hendricks has replaced injured West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who has been sidelined by a shoulder injury.

Joseph’s Mumbai debut yielded the best bowling figures in the 12-year history of the tournament – six for 12 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Uppal.

Left-armer Hendricks has played two ODIs and 10 T20Is – and previously represented the Kings XI Punjab.

‘The West Indian Joseph was picked as a replacement for Adam Milne, and went on to make a dramatic entry into the IPL with a record-breaking spell of six for 12,’ read a statement from the Mumbai Indians.

‘Hendricks comes in as a replacement, signing up with his second IPL franchise having represented Kings XI Punjab in the past. Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Super Kings in their next IPL 2019 encounter at Chennai on 26 April.’

Mumbai currently occupy third position in the 2019 competition’s eight-team standings, after six wins in 10 attempts. They won the IPL in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Proteas opener Quinton de Kock is their leading run-scorer this IPL season, with 378 in 10 innings. Their leading wicket-taker in 2019 is fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who has taken 11 in 10.

The franchise also boasts the services of Australia’s Jason Behrendorff, West Indies’ Kieron Pollard, New Zealand’s Mitchell McCleneghan and Sri Lankan Lasith Malinga.
