• Nortje, Phehlukwayo praise ‘real MVPs’

Proteas fast bowler Anrich Nortje and all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo have publicly expressed gratitude to South Africa’s frontline workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

While hundreds of thousands of South Africans remain at home to help prevent the spread of the virus, many have remained deployed amid essential services.

‘Thank you to the real Most Valuable Players, the frontline workers who are saving lives and keeping us safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. You are truly Team SA. I encourage everyone to wear their green and gold on Fridays in support of our heroes,’ Nortje wrote on Twitter.

Phehlukwayo echoed Nortje’s sentiment. The pair were with the Proteas in India recently, but that tour was suspended early amid the threat posed by the pandemic.

‘We’ve been going through a tough time as a country, but I’d like to say thank you to all the frontline workers for the work they are doing to keep us safe and healthy. We stand united with you, even from afar,’ he tweeted.
