• Northamptonshire deal for Proteas all-rounder

South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius has been contracted by Northamptonshire for the T20 Blast.

Pretorius will join Northants for the England and Wales Cricket Board’s premier limited-overs tournament in mid-July – and might be available for August’s County Championship fixture against Worcestershire. His arrival, though, will be subject to a no-objection certificate from Cricket South Africa.

‘I am really stoked to be joining Northamptonshire for the T20 Blast and for some red-ball cricket. I have always wanted to play county cricket – personally, it’s a dream come true and I can’t wait for the opportunity,’ said Pretorius.

‘I will be doing everything I can to help the Steelbacks lift the cup, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to be part of the team.’

The 30-year-old Pretorius has played 19 ODIs and four T20Is since September 2016’s Proteas debut, and has been named in the squad for the World Cup in the United Kingdom later this year.

‘It’s great to have Dwaine joining us for the T20 campaign. He is very hungry for his opportunity and gives us another hard-hitting all-rounder in our line-up, which in this format is always great to have,’ added Northamptonshire head coach David Ripley.

Pretorius is currently playing for the Lions in the CSA T20 Challenge.
