• Nkwe: I am the right person for the job

Proteas interim team director Enoch Nkwe is eager to fill the role in a permanent capacity.

Nkwe was appointed for the recent tour of India, which yielded a T20I series draw and three heavy Test defeats.

Permanent appointments for the team director and director of cricket roles will be made later this year, likely before the series against England in December. Former coach Corrie van Zyl is currently the acting director of cricket.

‘I believe I am, especially now that I have had this experience of the India tour and seen what areas need to be addressed. The last two months have helped me as a coach to grow to new levels. I strongly believe I am in the right position to do that,’ said Nkwe.

Nkwe coached the Lions and Jozi Stars to the 4-Day Franchise Series and inaugural Mzansi Super League titles, respectively, last year. He has also worked with the Vancouver Knights in the Global T20 Canada and the Netherlands national team.

‘I strongly believe I am the right person but that’s not my decision. If I end up not being the person, then I will go back into the domestic system, and help improve the system in a different way,’ he added.
