• Miller, Morris trade blows in Kings XI Punjab win

South African batsman David Miller and seamer Chris Morris traded solid performances, as the Kings XI Punjab beat the Delhi Capitals by 14 runs in Monday’s Indian Premier League showdown at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, Chandigarh.

Miller top-scored with 43 in Punjab’s final total of 166 all out, during which Morris snared figures of three for 30 in four overs.

The Capitals’ chase was restricted to 152 all out, having collapsed from a promising 144 for three inside 14 overs. The former Daredevils, indeed, lost the last seven wickets for a mere eight runs.

England recruit Sam Curran proved the destroyer in-chief, clinching four for 11 in 14 deliveries, including a hat-trick.

The fixture featured several other South Africans, among them fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada, Hardus Viljoen and Colin Ingram. Morris was run out without facing a delivery, while Rabada also perished for a duck. Ingram was one of Curran’s victims, while Viljoen accounted for the key dismissal of the dangerous Shreyas Iyer.

The result left the Kings XI Punjab in fifth position – and the Capitals in fourth – in the 2019 tournament’s eight-team standings.

Tuesday will see the Rajasthan Royals host the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Jaipur.
