Lions opener Ryan Rickleton scored a century to help guide his team to a six-wicket bonus-point victory over the Cobras in the One Day Cup Potchefstroom.
The Lions chased down the Cobras’ 222 comfortably, putting a young bowling attack to the sword. Rickelton anchored the innings, the left hander scoring freely in an innings that lasted 98 deliveries.
He was ably supported by Dominic Hendricks, who’s 54 off 61 deliveries took the game away from the Cobras.
The Cobras will lament the fact that so many of their batters got set, but never kicked on. Janneman Malan scored 67, but he never found a partner to build with.
Zubayr Hamza (22), Christiaan Jonker (33) and Jean du Plessis (34) all got themselves in but failed to build innings’ which would have helped take the team total beyond 270, which was par on the tame Potch track.
They needed their bowlers to choke the runs if they were to stand a chance of winning, but none were able to achieve this against a gifted Lions line-up.
