• Kings XI Punjab recruit South African duo

South Africans Jonty Rhodes and Charl Langeveldt will be part of the Kings XI Punjab’s coaching staff during the Indian Premier League later this year.

Rhodes, who has previously worked with the Mumbai Indians, will be Punjab’s fielding coach. Langeveldt will be their bowling coach. He holds the same role with the Proteas.

Former England head coach Andy Flower, meanwhile, has been named assistant coach of the Kings XI Punjab.

‘I am truly excited to come on board as the assistant coach for Kings XI Punjab and look forward to working with head coach Anil Kumble this edition of the IPL,’ Flower told the Kings XI Punjab’s website.

‘The team looks great and we have a fantastic lineup and top-notch support staff and we can’t wait to show the world what we are capable of.’

Punjab have never won the IPL.  This year, they will have West Indian batsman Chris Gayle, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, South Africa’s Hardus Viljoen, England’s Chris Jordan, New Zealand’s Jimmy Neesham and other stars from abroad in their squad.

Their opening match of the 2020 IPL will be with the Delhi Capitals at the Feroz Shah Kotla on 30 March.
