• Hat-trick for Proteas star in the Big Bash

Proteas seamer Marizanne Kapp took a hat-trick in the Women’s Big Bash League on Saturday.

Recently recruited by the Sydney Sixers Women, Kapp claimed telling figures of 3-16 in a comfortable victory over the Melbourne Stars Women at the Hurstville Oval.

She removed lower-order trio Madline Penna, Nicola Hancock and Holly Ferling with successive deliveries to seal the feat.

‘I just didn’t think I bowled that well, but I’ll take it,’ said Kapp after the match.

Kapp is playing alongside fellow Proteas Women star Dane van Niekerk at the Sixers. Van Niekerk, like Kapp, has two hat-tricks in professional cricket.

‘I believe she has two, I think, if I’m not mistaken. She has two and now I have two as well. She makes it look very easy,’ added Kapp.

Proteas Women seamer Shabnim Ismail is also involved in the tournament with the Sydney Thunder.

‘I’m really excited to join the Thunder and obviously make a difference. I really want to make an impact with the girls, and obviously I want to win as well,’ Ismail said earlier this month.

‘For the youngsters, just to pass on my knowledge from the level that I’ve been playing at which is the highest level.’
