Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate has replaced the injured Farhaan Behardien in the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants squad for the remainder of the 2019 Mzansi Super League.

Ten Doeschate, who was born in South Africa, has played 33 ODIs and 22 T20Is for the Dutch. He also boasts experience with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

‘I spent so much time watching cricket in the 1980s in Port Elizabeth,’ said Ten Doeschate.

‘It’s now an utter privilege that I get to play with a team that is doing so well in this tournament.

‘I think it’s going to be absolutely fantastic and I am really looking forward to it.’

The Giants are currently at the top of the six-team tournament’s standings. They are undefeated after five fixtures and will play the second-placed Paarl Rocks later this week.

‘When we lost Farhaan we obviously lost a specific talent and we thus needed to find someone who could bring that to the game,’ added Giants head coach Eric Simons.

‘We needed someone who can access the boundaries and perform much like the way we’ve seen with Heino Kuhn.

‘Ryan brings with him significant experience, calmness and he’s a leader.’
