Sarel Erwee and Vaughn van Jaarsveld broke the back of the Warriors’ resistance by setting up a nine-wicket victory to leapfrog the Warriors into second place on the One-Day Cup log.
The Warriors won the toss and elected to bat first at St George’s Park and struggled their way to 223-9 off their 50 overs.
Jon-Jon Smuts (76), Onke Nyaku (34) and Gihahn Cloete (27) did their best to help the Warriors post a competitive total, but the Dolphins bowlers kept them in check, with Okuhle Cele (3-52, econ 5.20) and Keshav Maharaj (1-28, econ 2.80) shining with the ball.
Erwee and Van Jaarsveld got the Dolphins innings off to a magnificent start, putting on 147 runs for the first wicket off 23.5 overs before Van Jaarsveld fell for a super 83 off 77 balls (S/R 107.79), including 11 fours.
Marques Ackerman (34 not out off 35 balls, 3×4, 1×6) added an unbroken 82 with Erwee to take the Dolphins to victory at 229-1 with 85 balls in hand. Erwee went to his 100 off 100 balls with 11 fours and three sixes, finishing undefeated on 105 off 103 balls, while Ackerman brought up the winning runs with a six off Sisanda Magala.
Basheeru-Deen Walters was the only bowler to pick up a wicket for the Warriors, ending with 1-47 from his 10 overs.
