• Van Jaarsveld, Maharaj drive Dolphins into One-Day Cup final

A sorry Warriors target of 120 was knocked off by the Dolphins with more than 30 overs to spare at Kingsmead as the hosts secured their place in Sunday’s final against the Titans.

On his return to the Dolphins’ One-Day Cup side after four years, Daryn Dupavillon picked up the wicket of danger man Matthew Breetzke for seven, while Eathan Bosch knocked over Gihahn Cloete (12) and Jon-Jon Smuts (4) to reduce the Warriors to 28-3 at the start of the seventh over.

Lesiba Ngoepe (34) and Marco Marais (29) added 46 for the fifth wicket, but the Warriors offered little further resistance, being bowled out for 119 runs off 34.3 overs.

Bosch picked up 2-31, Dupavillon 1-15 and Senuran Muthusamy 2-5, but it was Keshav Maharaj with 4-36 who ensured that any hope of a middle-order fightback was snuffed out.

Vaughn van Jaarsveld (53 off 53 balls) and Sarel Erwee (35 off 35 balls) added 69 for the first wicket off 12 overs to put thoughts of a Warriors comeback on the back burner, although the visitors stuck to their task and managed to snare three wickets.

Dane Vilas and skipper Khaya Zondo saw their side through to the win without further loss of wickets, with Maharaj picking up the Player of the Match award.
