• Devine dazzles, Sixers crash to Heat

    Sophie Devine came out all guns blazing on Sunday as the first player ever to score a half-century and take five sticks in a Women’s Big Bash League match.

    Devine scored 95 off 60 balls (8×4, 5×6) to guide her side to 172-3 before taking 5-41 to limit the Melbourne Stars to 153-9 off their 20 overs, with Mignon du Preez (33) and Lizelle Lee (25) getting among the runs.

    Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp’s Sydney Sixers suffered only their second defeat of WBBL 2018 as they lost to the Brisbane Heat by 66 runs. Both took a wicket in the Heat’s innings and the pair notched up the two highest scores of the Sixers innings (Niekerk 25, Kapp 14) as they were humbled for 88 all out off their 18 overs.
