• Davids, Faf gear up for top-of-table clash

Batsmen Faf du Plessis and Henry Davids turned their collective attention to Wednesday’s key clash with the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, after the Paarl Rocks beat the Cape Town Blitz in the Mzansi Super League.

Sunday’s result at Newlands left the Rocks within four points of the log-leading Giants, who are undefeated after five fixtures this season.

‘It was good fun. At first I wanted to have a look, as the deck was nice to bat on. There was a bit of nip, but it was a good wicket. All the teams are strong in the MSL this season, so this is a good win for us,’ said Davids, who hit 46 in the Rocks’ total of 163-8 and was named Player of the Match.

‘On Wednesday, we’ll be ready in Port Elizabeth. This was an all-round good performance and a nail-biting finish, which was an awesome game.’

Du Plessis praised spinners Tabraiz Shamsi and Bjorn Fortuin, who shared four key wickets against the Blitz. Fortuin was particularly key in dismissing top-order duo Janneman Malan and Marques Ackerman.

‘The spinners have been terrific. I call it “spin it to win it”. We have a few things to work on, so hopefully we put in a good performance against the Giants,’ added Du Plessis.

Defeated captain Quinton de Kock praised the opposition and looked forward to hosting the Durban Heat at Newlands on Thursday.

‘It was a very close game in the end. It is just unfortunate that we couldn’t cross the line. The Rocks played well. We’ll get together and come up with a plan for the next game,’ concluded De Kock.
