• CSA awards: ODI Cricketer of the Year?

    The annual Cricket South Africa awards will take place in Pretoria on Saturday. Several accolades will be handed out, including the ODI Cricketer of the Year.

    The candidates: Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Rassie van der Dussen, Quinton de Kock.

    ‘The national captain’s leadership and form helped the Proteas to away-series victories against Sri Lanka and Australia, then home-series victories against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He was the best SA batsman at the World Cup, where he scored 357 runs, and he was the only Proteas player to score a century at the tournament. He scored 1,128 ODI runs, including three hundreds and six 50s, with a top score of 125. He also took 21 catches.

    ’11 wickets at the World Cup took Phehlukwayo’s season tally to 39 wickets at an economy rate of 5.50, with a best of 4-22. With the bat, he scored 324 runs at a strike rate of 84.37, with a top score of 69 not out.

    ‘The leg-spinner maintained his status as one of the world’s best spinners. He took 11 wickets at the World Cup, ending his final international ODI season with 34 wickets at 4.53 runs per over. He took four wickets twice, and his best figures of the season were 6-24, including a hat-trick, against Zimbabwe. He also took eight catches.

    ‘Van der Dussen made 311 runs at the World Cup, including three half-centuries and a career-best 95 against Australia. He was the third-highest run-scorer of the season, with 664 runs, including seven 50s, at an average of 73.77 and a strike rate of 81.87 and nine catches to end the season on a high note.

    ‘The wicketkeeper-batsman was the second-highest Proteas run-scorer of the season. He scored 1,047 runs, including nine fifties, at a strike rate of 100. At the World Cup, he made 305 runs, including three 50s. Earlier in the season, he scored three half-centuries in a row, then converted his fourth into a season-best score of 121 against Sri Lanka. Behind the stumps, he took 42 catches and made two stumpings.

    ‘The Proteas attack leader took 11 wickets at the World Cup to push his season tally to 42 – the highest for the Proteas in ODIs. Rabada bowled 235.4 overs at an economy rate of 4.79. He took four wickets twice, with a best of 4-41.’ – Cricket South Africa.
