Bavuma and his move into European T20 cricket comes after a prolonged absence from the shortest format at international level, with his last T20I appearance for South Africa coming in September 2023.
The Proteas Test and ODI captain has not played a T20 match at any level since April 2024 and went unsold in the most recent SA20 auction cycle. He has now signed for the Ghent Gladiators in the new European T20 Premier League, where he will be based in Belgium.

In T20 internationals, Bavuma has played 36 matches and batted in 35 innings, scoring 670 runs at an average of 21.61 and a strike rate of 118.16. His highest score in the format is 72, and he has one half-century to his name, alongside 62 fours and 16 sixes.
Across all T20 cricket, he has featured in 131 matches and 118 innings, scoring 2653 runs at an average of 27.07 and a strike rate of 123.39. His highest score in the format is 104, and he has registered one century and 10 fifties, striking 224 fours and 64 sixes in total.
In franchise and domestic T20 leagues, Bavuma has played five matches in the SA20 for Sunrisers Eastern Cape, scoring 85 runs with a top score of 50 at a strike rate of 125.00. In the Mzansi Super League, he has scored 237 runs in 11 matches at an average of 26.33 and a strike rate of 131.66, with a best of 62. In the Champions League T20, he managed 13 runs in three matches.

Bavuma will represent the Ghent Gladiators alongside fellow South Africans Duan Jansen and Dwaine Pretorius, with former England international Jonathan Trott appointed as head coach.
