• Awards consolation for Rabada and Steyn

Fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Dale Steyn won the Fans’ Player of the Year and KFC Streetwise Award at the Cricket South Africa awards in Pretoria on Saturday.

Steyn’s accolade was in recognition of becoming the country’s leading wicket-taker in Test cricket earlier this year, after surpassing former captain Shaun Pollock’s tally of 421.

‘It is a very special moment for the CSA family to honour our leading Test wicket-taker of all time. He has been a wonderful brand ambassador for both CSA and the Proteas for well over a decade,’ said CSA chief executive officer Thabang Moroe.

‘He has not only been a great leader of the Proteas attack, but has also played a key role as mentor of the next generation.’

Rabada and Steyn had been nominated in the Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year category, but wicketkeeper-batman Quinton de Kock won the award. Rabada also featured in the ODI Cricketer of the Year section, but captain Faf du Plessis claimed the accolade.
