• Ali excited to work with ‘good friend’ Amla

England all-rounder Moeen Ali is looking forward to learning from former Proteas batsman Hashim Amla during the 2019 edition of the Mzansi Super League.

Ali was a late addition to the Cape Town Blitz squad, while Amla has been hired as a batting consultant.

They have opposed each other in international cricket, but will work together in an attempt to earn the Blitz a maiden title. The Blitz lost last year’s final to the Jozi Stars.

‘I think it’s great that we have Hashim. I have spent time with him in the past. He is a good friend,’ said Ali.

‘As a young player, when someone like Hashim comes and puts his arm around you, even for just to have a little five-minute chat, that’s enough, to give you inspiration and confidence.’

The left-handed Ali is available for the Cape Town franchise’s first two fixtures before being replaced by fellow international marquee player Wahab Riaz, who will join the tournament belatedly due to Pakistan commitments.

The 32-year-old Ali has played international and club cricket in Cape Town previously, having represented St Augustine Cricket Club in the Western Province Cricket Association club competition.

‘Cape Town is an amazing place to come and play. Really happy to be back and excited to play for the Blitz,’ he added.

‘I am here to get some form and play some good cricket. I just want to enjoy my cricket and play the fearless type of cricket that I always have,’ concluded Ali.
