Pollard crowned T20’s highest run scorer ever

Kieron Pollard has climbed to the very top of the T20 batting mountain, overtaking Chris Gayle to become the leading run scorer in the format’s history.

The milestone arrived during Major League Cricket action in the United States, where the veteran West Indies power hitter delivered yet another reminder of his extraordinary longevity and consistency across global franchise cricket.

With one defining innings, Pollard moved past the long standing benchmark set by fellow Caribbean great Chris Gayle, who had long held the position as the game’s most prolific T20 batter.

What makes the achievement even more remarkable is the role Pollard has played throughout his career. Rarely an opener and often finishing innings under pressure, he has built his numbers from the middle and lower order, thriving in high impact situations across leagues from the IPL to the CPL and beyond.

Now at the summit, Pollard’s record stands as a testament to durability in the shortest format, where careers are often short and form is fleeting. His power hitting, adaptability and sheer volume of matches have combined to push him beyond Gayle’s legendary tally.

For Gayle, the original T20 giant, the record stood as one of the format’s most iconic benchmarks. For Pollard, it is now another layer added to a legacy that already defines modern franchise cricket.

A new king of T20 runs has officially taken the throne.
