Mulder leads the way as Madsen and Montgomery fire

Wayne Madsen, Matthew Montgomery and Wiaan Mulder set the tone for South Africa's county cricketers on day one of Round 6 of the County Championship.

Division One

Wiaan Mulder took 3-46 and Simon Harmer 1-40 as Essex dismissed Hampshire for 235 at Chelmsford. Dean Elgar fell for 18 in reply, while Kyle Abbott claimed 1-10 and Codi Yusuf was out for a duck. Essex closed on 51-2.

Somerset posted 337-9 against Glamorgan at Cardiff, with Migael Pretorius unbeaten on 3 at stumps.

Michael Booth scored 3 and returned figures of 0-17 as Warwickshire were bowled out for 147 against Yorkshire at Edgbaston. Yorkshire closed on 110-4.

Stephen Eskinazi made 14 for Leicestershire against Sussex at Hove.

Division Two

Madsen struck 57 and Montgomery 54 as Derbyshire closed on a commanding 342-3 against Northamptonshire at Derby. Calvin Harrison took 1-40 for Northants.

Keith Dudgeon took 2-63 for Kent as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 325 at Bristol. Kent were 1-0 at stumps.

Gareth Roderick made 6 and Daniel Lategan 2 as Worcestershire closed on 209-7 against Durham at Worcester.

Leus du Plooy was unbeaten on 12 as Middlesex closed on 38-2 at Manchester, trailing Lancashire’s 201 by 163 runs.
