Sri Lanka fight back against West Indies

Lahiru Thirimanne and Oshada Fernando shared in a 162-run stand as Sri Lanka fought back in their second innings against the West Indies on Tuesday.

It didn’t take long for the visitors to wrap up the West Indies tail with the final two wickets as the men from the Caribbean were dismissed for 271, a lead of 102 runs.

Despite losing captain Dimuth Karunaratne for only eight, the Sri Lanka batsmen were up for the task of fighting back against the West Indies.

Thirimanne and Fernando were both solid and reached their respective half-centuries with ease. Fernando fell nine runs short of a Test century when he was dismissed by Kyle Mayers before the West Indies bowler got rid of Dinesh Chandimal for only four.

Kemar Roach then knocked over Thirimanne for 76, but Dhananjaya de Silva (46) and Pathum Nissanka (21) stood strong to see Sri Lanka to stumps on 255-4, leading the West Indies by 153 runs.
