Extras, extras! Aussie side top-scores with extras, 10 ducks

Roxsanne Van Veen returned sensational figures of 5-1 as New South Wales knocked South Australia over for just 10 runs in a women’s National Indigenous Cricket Championship match in Alice Springs on Wednesday.

South Australia’s score of 10 included six extras, with the only runs off the bat coming from opener Febi Mansell, with all 10 of her teammates ending the innings with ducks.

Van Veen’s figures of five wickets for one run came off just two overs, while teammate Naomi Woods bowled two balls in the innings, taking a wicket with both of them to close the NSW innings off after a total of just 62 deliveries in their Twenty20 match.

South Australia lost two wickets chasing down their minimalist target for the win, opener Dimity Parton falling for a first-ball duck, but her teammates closed off the match by the third over of their innings.

South Australia haven’t enjoyed the best of times in the tournament, losing their first match by 102 runs at the hands of the Northern Territory, who scored 188-5 off their 20 overs. South Australia’s batters fared far better than against NSW, scoring 86-9 off their 20 overs, with opener Mansell again top-scoring, on that occasion contributing 28 runs.
