IPL manager fined for using phone

The IPL has fined the Rajasthan Royals manager 100,000-rupee (R17,000) for using a phone in the team's dugout during a match.

Images of Ravinder Singh Bhinder on his phone during a match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 10 April were broadcast and shared widely on social media, prompting widespread criticism.

“Acknowledging the lapse, Mr Bhinder admitted to the offence and offered an unconditional apology,” said a statement posted on the league’s website. “He has also been warned to exercise greater care in the future and to adhere strictly to the established guidelines.”

IPL rules state that while a team manager is allowed to use a phone in the dressing room area, it is off limits in the dugout.

The Royals currently sit at No 3 on the points table, having lost only one game this season so far – just behind RCB and the Punjab Kings.
