• Time pressure on director of cricket role

Chief executive officer Thabang Moroe has suggested Cricket South Africa might not advertise the newly introduced director of cricket position.

The post was introduced after head coach Ottis Gibson’s tenure was not renewed earlier this year and a team director role implemented. Lions coach Enoch Nkwe currently occupies the team director post in an interim capacity. Former coach Corrie van Zyl is the acting director of cricket.

‘There is a school of thought that we may need to look at a different way to recruit. If we advertise we do that for a month, then we give ourselves two weeks to go through CVs to make sure we have the right people,’ said Moroe.

The Proteas will host England for four Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is from 26 December 2019 to 16 February 2019.

‘There must be interviews and for such a high-positioned job, you need to rope in some directors – given their HR experience – and that will then depend on their availability and then you’re looking at two or even three months before a director of cricket is employed. And that eats into the England tour.

‘We want the director of cricket in place way ahead of England’s arrival, so that that person can decide if they want to work with Enoch, or how long they want to do so before bringing in their own team.’
